  • Discussion
  • Our sense of entitlement finally suffocated us. It’s as if our team believes the football gods will always swoop down and save us...again. Our luck ran out.

  • Youth, lack of maturity. This team will be highly motivated. We win it next year.

  • Not "just plain better".
Alabama is better. But played an absolutely piss poor game.
    Agree otherwise.
Doesn't make me like it, though.

That alone won't do it. We have significant weaknesses that the top quality teams can exploit that have to be corrected. We have lost the last 7 quarters of football we have played 78-33. It all started early in the 2nd Q of the Oklahoma game with our D getting exposed.

  • The game didn't make a lot of sense. We ran the ball at will. Passed the ball pretty well. A few bone-headed play calls and Clemson making play after play on 3rd down killed us. The score says Clemson is the better team. Dabo said he knew they had the better team. I guess they earned the right to crow but I think we would win this game at least 50% of the time with the same rosters. I credit Clemson's DC as well. Definitely confused Tua and made him throw 2 costly picks. That said, it should have been much closer than the final score suggests. I'm still kind of in shock about how it played out. We dominated the LOS in the first half and looked to do the same at the start of the 2nd. Oh well. Roll Tide and we'll probably see the same team next year.

Clemson was the better all around team this year.

Agreed! After the 1st qtr our O sort of disappeared when it came to scoring. we ran it well, threw it well, but then fracked up somehow near the goal line.
The play call on the fake fg was odd at best. It hurt when our shovel pass failed and theirs went for a td.
    Missed PAT
False Start on someone at the 1 (it was not on Wills, he didn't move)
    They were far better prepared.

No reason not to like it, it’s the flat out truth.

  • The pick 6 just got in our head. Started pressing everywhere, and it snowballed despite lots of yards. But a very odd game. It wasn't even so much Trevor Lawrence. Just off everywhere.

Did you see Trevor Lawrence's stats on 3rd down? At one time was 9 of 11 for over 300 yds and 2 TDs and that was just on 3rd down. You like crow fried or baked?

Bama was better? It was 44-16. It wasn't 20-17.

  • Yeah a lot of that was open receivers or incredible catches. Lawrence was good and think he is a phenomenal talent, but I will remember a lot of other issues with this game 1st

  • We didn't play well and certainly weren't deserving of winning this game. Our defense never pressured the QB and we made enough mistakes to beat us... and it did. Clemson capitalized on those mistakes and played great when they needed to. Tough, embarrassing loss in my opinion. We'll be back and without something crazy happening, we'll probably be in the playoff hunt again next year. We laid an egg I never thought I'd see a Saban led 'Bama team lay tonight. I thought Dabo gloated a little in his on field interview after the game. Didn't like it much but it is what it is. We should have taken care of business. Not sure I'd be happy with "little ole' Dabo from little ole' Clemson" taking over when Saban retires... My (emotional) .02

  • "Rat poison", the players really believed they were "Saban's best". This loss hurts but will make the team hungry again and realize they aren't invincible.
Maybe Tua's pedestal nor his expections will be as high since he has shown to be human.

  • Just couldn’t finish drives. We moved the ball. To cute when in the red zone. Only thing I won’t miss about locksley. They couldn’t stop the run. Yet we abandon it down deep. Stupid. Really hate we lost of course but just means me we have to work that much harder next yr. A few bad non calls stopped drives. But damn they skull dragged our ass on defense.

We tried to run it in down deep but should have had Jacobs toting the rock. We did get a score from passing.

We needed to get to the Championship and get whipped? That is crazy logic.

Just saying Bama needed this type of loss. Doesn't really matter what game it was in or what was on the line. Just that Bama needed to be humbled.

I agree to a certain point. Coach Saban himself needs to reevaluate how he defends this offense just like he did when Tebow was at Florida. Antonio Langham asked him about 2 years ago about why he refuse to change especially in the secondary because he is still doing the same thing he did when he was at the Cleveland Browns. Coach Sabans response, there was nothing wrong with the defense, it was the players not listening to him. Langham basically was saying the offenses were evolving and changing and eventually we would have to change. I think vs some teams, this has proven to be true..
Just like we changed our offense, i believe we need to look at some things we do fundamentally on defense.

Why is there ever a reason for a LB to be on an Island with a scat back in pass coverage at 265lbs- split out wide like a CB?
Why do we have 300lbs DL's on the edge (3rd down) to leverage perimeter plays?
Why do we vacate the middle of the field to try to match and reroute guys who adjusts routes during the play based on alignment (Influence routes)?

These are just a few questions.

  • Total yards:

    Alabama 447, Clemson 389

    Score: Clemson 44, Alabama 16

    My notes from last night:

    - You’re not going to ever beat an accurate QB w/ ZERO pass rush. We haven’t had a healthy, elite PR since Tim Williams.

    - They pressured Tua ALL NIGHT.

    - Our secondary is young and not at full strength mind you. Hello diggs, wright, smith.

    - Tua, I felt, made an inexplicable throw into too much traffic early w/ his first pick.
The second pick he over-threw... but he should’ve seen the help.

    - Play-calling was atrocious in several spots.

    - We left points on the board several times. Partial credit to clemson. They played a role in that, but much of it was self-inflicted.

    - How many times did we hear... “The Alabama linebackers look lost”? ... they were out if position all night, missed several tackles.
I’m not sure those (LB) jobs aren’t up for grabs this offseason. Mack struggles and Moses is a converted RB... but he is learning, its just taking time. We need positional/functional LB at the position and no more projects.

    - Penalties.

    - The injuries (& absences) tallied up at season end: Lewis, Allen, Diggs, Brown, Wright, Smith, Miller... etc...

    - Noticiably, clemson doesn’t ever seem to get injured nor do they ever graduate. They also never lose coaches routinely.
Bama has lost countless players early to the draft and numerous coaches to other vacancies.

Lastly... props to clemson. They played a nearly flawless game.

But, IMO, the score wasn’t an indicator of production ... as you can read at the begining of my post.

Exactly... This is 3 out 4 years, regardless of DC, We could not stop Clemsons offense. Pruitt did the best because, he did not allow the offense to dictate to him the whole game, he mixed up blitzes and coverages to confuse Bryant. He consistently brought pressure but different ways. Other than last year, we have been owned by Clemsons offense when they had a good passer at QB..

  • How is it that Lawrence can’t throw side to side but can throw 40 yards on a dime?

Oh he will fix that i'm sure. He's 6'6" and he will learn to adjust. Early in the game, he was a little rattled, later he did much better after settling down. Dude is a player.
