Great starts.

Great starts.

  • The men are off to a 4-0 start and the women are off to a 4-2 start this year.

  • Discussion
  • The men were ranked #23 in the coaches poll going into the weekend and will keep moving up after beating Air Force and #14 Florida Gulf Coast this weekend to improve to 6-0.

The coaches poll isn't out yet but Top Drawer Soccer has Northridge ranked #22 (they beat UW, who was ranked #8 in the coaches poll going into their match), Fullerton ranked #24 and Riverside ranked #26.

The Big West is way up this season and #3 in conference RPI at this point, which bodes well for multiple teams getting into the NCAA tournament.

Here are the RPI's after the weekend:

    Fullerton 5
    CSUN 11
    Riverside 26
    Irvine 36
    UC Davis 65
UCSB and Sac State are in the low 100's and Cal Poly is in the 140's.

  • The men are now 8-0-1 after beating Cal Baptist and tying LMU (ranked #24 last week) last night.

Fullerton is ranked #12 in College Soccer News and #17 by Top Drawer Soccer. UCSB is ranked #18 by TDS and tied Stanford (ranked #1 last week) at home 3-3 on Sat.

RPI's continue to look good for multiple Big West bids in the NCAA's. The Big West is #5 in conference RPI.

    Fullerton 12
    Riverside 21
    Northridge 40
    UCSB 43
    Irvine 48
UC Davis 78 (ended St. Mary's 34 game unbeaten streak last week)
    Cal Poly 89
    Sac State 105

  • The women are 8-2-1, 1-0 in conference after smoking UC Davis 4-0 at home on Thursday. The next match is at the Long Stench Sharks (3-7, 1-0), who beat Cal Poly 2-1 in their conference opener in SLO.

Fullerton has the best RPI in the Big West at 111 so the conference will definitely receive only one bid to the NCAA's, which will go to the winner of the conference tournament.

  • Fullerton came from behind to beat the Long Stench Sharks 2-1 last night.

Other results - Hawaii beat Irvine at home, Northridge beat Cal Poly at home and UCSB won at UC Davis.

Fullerton plays at 2-9-1 Riverside on Sunday and the only other conference match that day is Cal Poly at UC Davis.

Four teams will play in the conference tournament.

    Standings

    Fullerton 2-0
    Hawaii 2-0
    UCSB 2-0
    Irvine 2-1
    Northridge 2-1
    Long Beach 1-2
    Cal Poly 0-2
    Riverside 0-2
    UC Davis 0-2

  • Good win but I'm afraid for our defense and our goalkeeper. Offense is solid, but that only wins games not championships.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton women's soccer picked up a 1-0 win at UC Riverside on Sunday night to bring the team's unbeaten streak to nine (eight wins, one draw). Thanks to freshman defender Megan Day's goal, the Titans are 3-0 to start Big West Conference play for the first time since 2013 when the Titans won their first four league matches.

Despite scoring just one goal, it was a dominant match for the Titans (10-2-1, 3-0 Big West) as they had 13 shots (five on goal) and 15 corner kicks while allowing just two shots (one on target) and one corner kick. Senior Sarah Davidson was aggressive in the attack as she had three shots, with two on target and the third hit the crossbar.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Noa Schumacher and the Titan defense was suffocating and has been stout throughout the season but particularly in league play, allowing just one goal in three matches.

  • Over the last two weeks, the women had three 1-1 ties at Irvine, vs. Hawaii, vs. UCSB and won 1-0 at Cal Poly.

They are in 1st place with one match left, which will be a critical one at home against Northridge on Sunday. If the women beat Northridge, they will win the Big West regular season title and host the conference tournament, which is hosted by the regular season champ. The tournament will have four teams.

Here are the standings going into the last week:

Fullerton 15 points, 4-0-3 - bye, vs. Northridge

Northridge 12 points, 4-2 - vs. Long Beach, at Fullerton

UCSB 11 points, 3-1-2 - vs. Riverside, vs. Irvine

Hawaii 11 points, 3-1-2 - at UC Davis, at Long Beach

Irvine 10 points, 3-2-1 - at Cal Poly, at UCSB

Long Beach 6 points, 2-4 - at Northridge, vs. Hawaii

UC Davis 6 points, 2-5 - vs. Hawaii, bye

Cal Poly 5 points, 1-3-2 - Irvine, Riverside

Riverside 3 points, 1-5 - at UCSB, at Cal Poly

  • Updated standings going into Sunday. The top four teams will be playing in the conference tournament next week, the other five teams are done after their final games on Sunday. Fullerton needs to win and can't rely on tying like they have against the three teams below Northridge or else UCSB and/or Hawaii will steal the regular season title and will be hosting the conference tournament.

    Fullerton 15 points, 4-0-3 - vs. Northridge

    Northridge 15 points, 5-2 - at Fullerton

Hawaii 14 points, 4-1-2 - at Long Beach

    UCSB 14 points, 4-1-2 - vs. Irvine

    Irvine 10 points, 3-2-1 - at UCSB

    Cal Poly 8 points, 2-3-2 - Riverside

Long Beach 6 points, 2-5 - vs. Hawaii

    UC Davis 6 points, 2-6 - done

Riverside 3 points, 1-5 - at UCSB, at Cal Poly

  • Big West Champions!
Onward to the BWT and NCAA.

  • Fullerton beat Hawaii 3-0 and Northridge beat UCSB 1-0 in OT tonight so Fullerton will play Northridge on Sunday.

  • The women hammered Northridge 4-0 tonight to win the conference tournament and the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The bracket will be announced tomorrow at 1:30 Pacific time. With an RPI well over 100, it wouldn't be much of a surprise to see Fullerton paired up with USC or UCLA, who are both in the top ten in the RPI.

  • Congratulations Coach Brown and Fullerton WSOC!

  • The women will be playing at USC in the first round of the NCAA tournament. USC is the #2 seed in that part of the bracket (so #5 to #8 overall, which lines up with their RPI) so Fullerton is the equivalent of a 15 seed.
