Five star big man Armando Bacot was among the first prospects in the class of 2019 to be associated with the Blue Devils after he made several visits to Durham last year. Since that time the 6-foot-10 Virginia big man has stayed in contact with the Duke coaching staff and continues to list Mike Krzyzewski's program among his top choices.

Last week in Colorado we spoke with Bacot to discuss his efforts for Team USA as well as where his recruiting process is heading.

How would you describe the experience of USA Basketball?

Armando Bacot: It’s been good, definitely been an adjustment so far with being so high above sea level, but I’ve been doing great. I knew I had to pay attention to every single detail because they put us through a lot yesterday, especially so they could tell who was ready to compete. I just wanted to make an impression on them and have that be positive, so I knew I wanted to come out and deliver with what I was doing.

What’s the feedback been like so far from the coaches?

They said I was playing pretty well, especially with my screening, rolling, going to the paint and rebounding, just doing things that a big is supposed to do.

You’ve been putting up some 3s too from what I can tell in the drills and scrimmages…

Yeah, sorta. They probably prefer for us to play in the paint more, but if we can show that we can make those shots, I’m pretty sure they are cool with it.

Which of the other players here have you developed a relationship with?

Joey (Baker), Cole (Anthony), Jalen (Lecque), Tyrese (Maxey), I’m really just cool with everybody here, those are my guys I would say. Justin (Moore) too and Hunter (Dickinson). Quentin Grimes is in the room with me too. I knew those guys from Adidas Nations last year. Matthew Hurt is there too.

What are your thoughts on Hurt as a player?

Yeah he’s really good man. He can shoot it from 3 at 6’9, he’s really good in the system here and he’s got a really good feel for the game which helps him here and it’ll help him be successful at the next level.

You mentioned back in Indy in the open period that you might be considering taking some visits sometime in June or maybe July. If you make this team, does all of that get pushed back?

Yeah I don’t think I’m planning on taking any visits in June, I’m looking more at August and September. I’ll probably make a Top 5 after this. My Top 10 and Georgia is in contention for that.

Who is making it a priority to stay in contact with you?

UNC, Duke, VCU, Oklahoma State, Georgia.

How’s things going with you and Nate James from the Duke staff? Is he still the point person at Duke for your recruitment?

Yes sir. He’s been asking me how I’ve been doing, and I also talked with Coach Scheyer last week after my tournament. He checks in on me to see how I've been doing.
