I wonder if it's Gore - he started with the 3 group on Saturday----just speculating and do not know the kid at all so its an assumption and could be unfair to even mention but a multi-year starter coming out with 3's in spring is interesting.
Again, not casting stones his way but curious as to who " is not buying in?"

  • Coach Houston will take us to new places, but we didn't get here in one season and he won't fix all the issues in one season. But I'm hoping for as much improvement as possible

  • DL, DL and DL, with 1-2 OL as well!!

  • His comment..."a lack of explosiveness in certain areas on offense"... could cover numerous positions. Our DEs didn't seem to show a lot of speed...but let's hope that's because our OTs were doing a good job. It will be interesting to see what maneuvers coach is able to make to improve certain weaknesses!!!

  • How many can we add? Cuts can't be replaced with incoming freshmen or grad transfers if I am not mistaken. The only way to add would be transfers that have to sit out or cutting incoming freshmen signees. Has something changed?

  • I fully realize the roster is paper thin at the interior defensive line now that Purvis is out. Concussions — Spellacy, Norris, and Bogle don’t help. The staff doesn’t have what it needs at TE. For a variety of reasons, ECU is down nine or 10 scholarships (two more when including those for a long snapper and a backup kicker) —to use a much-needed scholarship on a late qualifying JUCO or grad transfer power running back would be borderline criminal.

If the staff wants to add talent, add blueshirts. But I prefer them to be high schoolers. Five years versus one or two.

While I’m all for culture change, the staff doesn’t have the depth to run off players.

Colby Gore is the most talented corner on the team. Has been a team guy — even more curious to me, he still has the same coach. Aaron Ramseur has been the best linebacker for two years.

Anyone added on scholarship, either grad transfer or juco is a 2020 scholarship and limits who we can sign next year. I believe the only way to add additional scholarships, to get numbers up, is to give them to walk-ons. Everything else counts against your 25/year.

I believe that Robert Mervin is the only blue shirt we have currently. That would leave us with 24 'ships available for 2020.

  • I would think the only reason to try to upgrade our talent through transfers or Juco is because coach Houston believes we can win now. Why potentially mortgage your future scholarships with transfers if you think you are a 5-7 team?

Question here... Dooley is upgrading talent for our basketball team by getting 5 of our current players to enter transfer protocol and leave ECU, thus freeing up their scholarships for his upgrades. Is this possible for football also? Can Houston encourage certain scholarship players to go somewhere else and then use their scholarships for his upgrades?

  • I don’t know Gore and I’m not in the locker room, but I’ve met Gore 2 or 3 times and I follow him on Instagram (like I do most of the players because it is a cool way to see some behind the scenes stuff). From everything I can tell, Gore is most definitely a team player with a good attitude. He just seems like a good person in general.

I’m not sure why he’s dropped out of a starting spot but I’m pretty comfortable saying it’s not due to behavior or anything of that nature.

I’m pulling for him. I hope he gets it all figured out.

I may be wrong, SI can clarify, but I believe you're still limited to 25 per year. The only ones that don't count are walkons and they have to be in the program for 2 years or else they count towards the 25 for the year their year.

My understanding was that we had given all available scholarships for 2019. Unless we encourage a couple of the 2019 class to greyshirt or blueshirt we don't have much wiggle room to upgrade the for the 2019 season.

And I believe we already have one blueshirt to count against 2020. I'm leaning to agree with OIPirate, in that Houston must thin we can add a couple of pieces and win now. Doubtful he would use this many of 2020 scholarships unless he believed this. I guess it's possible he's more impressed with the younger players and believes adding help now won't mortgage future classes.
