    Draft 6/20

So the Lakers finally did deal for Davis. I wonder how Coach and GM LeBron wants to use him.

Did you miss how the Lakers hired Frank Vogul instead of Tyrone Lou? They would be much better off if LeBron was the coach and GM.

  • I’m still a Warrior’s fan. I wish I had a clue who will be on the court with Curry this upcoming season. Either way, should be fun.

Also, interested in watching the Pelicans, it’s already Duke - South and that before the number 4 draft selection. Does anyone recall a team with 3 or more starters from one university?

  • Not sue who the Hornets would pick but I wonder if they are shopping picks for contract relief.

  • Rod Boone: Mitch Kupchak said he doesn’t anticipate #Hornets going into the luxury tax threshold if they re-sign Kemba, which they still want to do. Suggested there are ways to avoid it. (Sounds like code words for stretching a contract or making a trade). 3 days ago – via Twitter rodboone

Kupchak reinforced that everything else this off-season is secondary to re-signing Walker, who is eligible for a new contract of up to $221 million over the next five years. “You’re talking about a substantial contract that goes out many years. When that happens, it creates some financial inflexibility that you have to deal with,” Kupchak said. “We have to be mindful of a Kemba contract, should we be lucky enough to re-sign him. There could be limitations (on other roster moves), absolutely.” 1 day ago – via Charlotte Observer

Additionally, Kupchak’s comments cast serious doubt that the Hornets can afford to re-sign both Walker and shooting guard Jeremy Lamb. “I would not anticipate that is something we would look to do,” Kupchak said of being a tax-paying team next season. “There are ways to increase (the distance from the luxury-tax threshold). It’s important we address that as soon as possible. Everybody needs to get on and plan.” 1 day ago – via Charlotte Observer

    they're the rumored front-runners

I'm not mad at Kemba with how Charlotte hasn't put anything of value around him. That said, I'd be mad at Charlotte letting him go, the only player on the roster worth a damn. BUT, we got so much suck on the roster that its probably going to need a gutting to dump bad contracts and players.

It just sucks I got a purple and the black tshirt jersey with his name on it LOL.

    they can't, with all the $tupid contract$ they've handed-out

  • this is the first I've heard of a figure tossed-out by the Hornets...

Stephen A. Smith on ESPNews: “My sources tell me that Kemba Walker has informed the Charlotte Hornets and Michael Jordan he does not want to be there. He was offered a five-year deal. It wasn’t the super-max deal he was qualified for. It was somewhere in the ballpark of 160-plus million.” 1 hour ago – via NBC Sports

  • Looking inevitable that kemba goes to Celtics.

rumors have him already informing the Hornets of this

Good for Kemba, bad for the Hornets. I'm not mad at him. But I wonder what this floundering franchise does not for players as the roster is pretty suspect to make the playoffs as is.

Nets making some serious moves in getting Durant and Irvin.

The hornets are a complete disaster of a franchise. It's was always going to be pointless to pay him even max money to be on a team of this level going no where. They should have traded him 2 years ago when it was completely obvious where this was heading and got the max return they could have, or at least last trade deadline when he was on a bargin of a contract. The entire thinking made no sense.

If you kept him you knew he was going to need to be paid, and now when he had a career year and the best outcome you could have hoped for you don't even offer him the regular max when he's eligible for the super max. Completely rudderless steering of this franchise and now the only thing of value walked for nothing. Even worse they replaced him with a completely overpaid dude worth half of what he was paid if that. It's even worse than letting him walk for nothing.

It would have been a better use of the money just to resign Lamb for cheaper on a better contract and get a Ish Smith for the bargain he signed for or at least value trad-able contracts they might could pick up 2nd rounders or late first. This team is going to be horrible for the for seeable future and Rosier has almost not upside and is pretty terrible.

    we shall see...

  • Walker qualified for the $221 million super-maximum contract over five seasons by earning a spot on the All-NBA third team after another All-Star season, but was open to signing a deal less than that amount. He simply wanted the Hornets to present him with a proposal that he could justify, even if it was slightly less than the normal max of $190 million. None of it came. “Tough days, fucking tough days, I can’t even lie,” Walker told The Athletic. “Excuse my language. It was difficult. I couldn’t see myself just being on another team. It was just hard. That’s all I’ve known was Charlotte. Definitely some tough times. I had a feeling that I wasn’t going to get the offer that I wanted, and maybe not close to it, because of cap space. “I had to get my head wrapped around the feeling and picking another team.” 1 day ago – via The Athletic

The Hornets’ best offer to Walker was just under $160 million over five years, league sources told The Athletic, and in the meantime, the Kyrie Irving-less Celtics emerged as a significant appeal to the 29-year-old. For their part, the Hornets moved onto another young free-agent point guard, the Celtics’ Terry Rozier, who signed a fully guaranteed three-year, $58 million contract. 1 day ago – via The Athletic

Walker said he did not have a final conversation with Hornets owner Michael Jordan, but understood the organization’s viewpoint. “It’s not disappointing because I understand the business side of things,” Walker said. “I’m not mad at MJ or the organization for anything. I understand it. You have to look at both sides at the end of the day. Could MJ have went over the luxury tax? Yeah, he could have. But why? 1 day ago – via The Athletic
