The annual Atlantic Coast Conference Football Kickoff event will be held at The Westin in Charlotte, North Carolina on Wednesday, July 18th and Thursday, July 19th.

Florida State will be among the Atlantic Division schools participating during Thursday's portion of the event. The Seminoles will have new head coach Willie Taggart meeting with league media, while sophomore running back Cam Akers and junior defensive end Brian Burns will be the player representatives for FSU.

It will mark Taggart's first-ever experience at the ACC Kickoff. The new head coach for the Seminoles will discuss his expectations for his upcoming first season in Tallahassee. Some hot topics with Taggart are likely to be about who will potentially be his starting quarterback when his team takes the field against Virginia Tech on Labor Day Night, how he expects the Seminoles to perform in the 'Gulf Coast Offense' and also how the defense is transitioning to handling what is being asked of them by new defensive coordinator Harlon Barnett.

As a freshman, Akers rushed for 1,024 yards, breaking FSU's freshman rushing record that was previously held by Dalvin Cook. After his outstanding freshman campaign, Akers was named third-team All-ACC. On the ground, he averaged 5.3 yards per carry with seven rushing touchdowns. He also had 16 receptions for 116 yards and a touchdown.

Burns is set to enter a crucial junior campaign where he will look to cap off a strong career as a Seminole before turning his attention towards the NFL. As a sophomore, he had 48 tackles, including a team-leading 13.5 tackles for loss with 4.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and two blocked punts. He was a freshman All-American in 2016 as he led all freshmen nationally with 9.5 sacks. He had 24 total tackles as a freshman, but 10.5 tackles for loss. He tallied more than one sack four times during the 2016 campaign – a feat that no FSU freshman had accomplished in a single game since 2006.

The ACC Kickoff will have Taggart and the players speaking to a variety of media, including extended sit-down conversations with all different kinds of outlets. They will also take time to take photos with fellow coaches and players from throughout the league.

The ACC Kickoff is also where the preseason squads and other accolades for the upcoming football season are voted on. The release of preseason accolades by the ACC is done over multiple days during and immediately following the event.

In addition to the coaches and players, ACC commissioner John Swofford will also address the media and hold a 'State of the ACC' discussion.
