2020-21 Schedule Watch

2020-21 Schedule Watch

  • The Mountain West/A-10 challenge has been postponed to next year, crossing Fresno State's home game versus George Mason off the schedule.

The American Conference increased it's conference schedule from 18 to 20 games. The Mountain West could look at doing the same for a full round robin this year due to non-conference complications.

  • Discussion
  • It's been reported that the Mountain West will have an 18 game conference schedule starting in late December.

The non conference is what's really going to be interesting.

Hopefully, who is ever in charge of scheduling will do their due diligence and get into some non conference bubble.

  • This article discusses the potential location of bubbles.

It mentions that West coast conferences are trying to start a bubble in Vegas.

The list includes WCC, Big Sky, Big West, WAC, and Mountain West. These leagues would all be participating in a bubble.

  • Latest update apparently Fresno State is awaiting word on if the Southern California Challenge a Multi team event that Fresno State was scheduled to participate in will go on as scheduled.

They are waiting word on if it will be moved to a different venue, or go on as scheduled, or be cancelled.

If they are able to play in that event they should get at least 4 games out of it.

The goal of every Mountain West team is to get at least 8 non conference games. The teams that are going to have the most difficult time accomplishing that are the lower tier teams Air Force, Wyoming, San Jose State, and Fresno State.

  • Fresno State is not a lower tier team in the MW because of one rebuilding season, let's not get loopy here.

  • They are according to standings and perception no one is trying to invite a lower tier team to a bubble.

  • We have a legit 1st round prospect and a history of success, our 2019 rebuilding season isn't going to erase that.

A season determines a program,,,not preseason clippings or forecasts. You better stop hanging around Harry dude. You'll have is in the Big West Conference next.

The facts don't lie. People only care about the here and now. They are coming off an 8th place finish.

An 8th place finish is the definition of a lower tier team there is no misunderstandings about that you just have to deal with reality.

They still do control their own destiny it's up to the team to change their own trajectory.
  • Historically Dogs seem to be a fourth to fifth place team in MWC. And that’s with pretty decent talent. Dogs only move up ladder when they have exceptional veteran players like Marvelle Harris or JTaylor who are complimented with a solid cast of role players. CHut continues to be on a team building cycle as players come and go. He needs good three year players recruited as freshman or transfers to start competing and wining at a high level.

  • Hut definitely needs to figure out how to keep his recruits more than one year in the program for team chemistry.

The more minutes a team can play together the better they'll be down the road. That can't happen if players keep leaving.

Another, piece to the puzzle is player development. It will be interesting to see what kind of gains Robinson, Holland, and Campbell made from the previous season.

Who knows maybe those players come back looking like totally different players.

I'm looking forward to seeing if Campbell improved his shot.

  • I still feel the SJM seven foot freshman will be impactful.

  • All those Freshman should be contributors they have to there is only 10 readily available players on roster.

Meah to me looks more athletic than Diouf and he runs the floor better than Diouf. I see him taking Diouf minutes.

Overall, the Freshman best case scenario would be to have an impact like those Colorado State freshman from last year. Those Freshman made Colorado State an instant winner. Otherwise, they'll just be role players trying to develop.

The leader of the team should be Gage. Will see what kind of energy he brings to the team.

  • League play will start December 29th and will not be in a bubble.

The first game of league play for Fresno State is at home against Wyoming.

Dogs are bringing great talent but CHUT needs keep them on roster for more than one or two seasons to be a top tier team in MWC.

That's one part of the equation. Player development is another.

The optics of these recruits on the surface it looks like they all have upside, but so did Agau.

In year two Agau looked like he transgressed.

In order to survive in this league some of his recruits have to become stars within the Mt. West.
