Naples, FL ATH Jacquez Carter decommits from UMass

Minutemen now have an available scholarship spot to use for another #EliteBreed18 player

Two weeks ago Naples, FL/Palmetto Ridge ATH Jacquez Carter took an official visit to UMass. Three days later he committed to the Minutemen as a post-NSD add to the 2018 class, set to come to Amherst as a cornerback. This afternoon however he informed us that he had decided to back off his commitment to the Minutemen:

As you can see above, Carter told us that the reason for his decision was that he wanted to continue his football career at the next level as a quarterback. When he committed to UMass it was as an ATH that would be coming in to compete as a CB in the summer.

News of Carter's decision was a surprise to our sources, however they wished him well and were confident that the Minutemen would be able to use the now-available scholarship on another potential impact player for the class of 2018.

To be clear, Carter knew going in with UMass that he was not going to play quarterback. He was informed that the position they were recruiting him for was cornerback when he took his official visit, and he understood that prior to making his commitment at the end of February. He had a change of heart and wanted to try and find a home at the next level that would take him on offense as a dual-threat quarterback. As of now we do not know what other schools are involved in Carter's recruitment.
