Maui bracket released today at 9am

  • It is being released at 9 by the one shining pod guys. I think it will be on youtube.

I would imagine we will be opposite kansas so we would meet them in the finals.

  • Discussion
  • Other than Kansas, what do the rest of the teams bring to the tournament?

    Basketball players.

  • We all assume they're putting MSU and Georgia on the same side of the bracket, right? My guess is the matchups will be something like this:

    MSU vs Chaminade
    UGA vs VA Tech

    Kansas vs BYU
    UCLA vs Dayton

  • 3am Maui time?

  • Also one shining pod is a pretty good podcast. One of the guys used to play for osu. He rarely got to play. They would play russian roulette some games and not wear shorts. They would just wear their warm up pants. They said it was a rush when the game got to garbage time because if matta had tried to put them in the game they had no shorts....

  • Why didn't Chaminade play in it last year? They are a waste of a game.

They reorganized it last year where Chaminade only participates in the tournament in odd-numbered years, and on even-numbered ones, they get shipped off to that "Maui on the Mainland" thing for tiny teams.

It's pretty much a compromise for that reason you mentioned. They're a free W, so it's a way to add in a decent team every other year but still be able to use their facilities for it.

  • Of course, they give Chaminade to the blueblood lol

I'm cool with it. Better resume with Ws against VaTech, Georgia, and Kansas anyway

Trying desperately to guarantee that UCLA draws Kansas in the semis? That tilts the bracket way too hard on MSU's side.

They were always going to feed Chaminade to us or Kansas. Giving BYU to UCLA is more laughable.

  • Didn't va tech lose most of their team?

    - Alexander-Walker to draft
    - Hill, Outlaw, and Robinson were seniors
    - Blackshear to Florida
    - Clarke to Texas Tech
    - Bede and Nolley re-enrolled after declaring their intent to transfer

Bracket plays out as East vs. West

Which also could conveniently give them semis of Izzo vs Crean and Kansas vs UCLA.

All about the Dolla Dolla Bills, y'all

I mean I'm not surprised. I had figured they'd try to set up the semis like that. It almost seemed too obvious.

  • The facilities are not Chaminade’s.....Chaminade is on Oahu I believe.

And their coach to Texas A&M

  • Doesn’t it make more sense to have MSU-Dayton and Va Tech-UGA?

Why does UGA get an easier first round matchup than MSU?

    Because ESPN hates us.

Because ESPN wants to increase the odds of both teams advancing.

  • Any way to get tickets to this still? I know the "MSU packages" are sold out, but can you just buy tickets?

Ah, you're right. I just assumed that's why they were always in it, but a quick Google search told me that that they're in Honolulu and that it's because they hosted #1 Virginia back in 1982, upset them, and were encouraged by Terry Holland to create it. So it looks like being the whole reason behind the tournament and being the hosts of it is why they're always a part of it.

Edit: Fun fact I just learned is that Chaminade is a Catholic university that's Marianist, and their congregation operates three universities in the US, one of which is UDayton, who is also in the Invite.

Virginia Tech is projected to be way worse than Dayton. They are the projected second worst team in the bracket by a decent margin
