Any Cons against the Employment Non-Discrimination Act?

Any Cons against the Employment Non-Discrimination Act?

  • I assume you're all on board in making sure people can't be fired because of their sexual orientation or gender identity? Or is just up to an employer if they want to fire people simply for being lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender?

Wixom - give a shit? Didn't think so thumbsup.

I'm totally on board with prohibiting all forms of discrimination. Just like I'm sure you oppose affirmative action programs that specifically discriminate against people based solely on their race and/or gender.

Really? Shouldn't business owners be allowed to run their businesses consistent with their personal values? Surely this is just more big government intrusion, and a disgusting effort to force godless moral systems on Real America?

  • It's got a lot of bipartisan support, which is good. If businesses can't fire people for being black, they shouldn't be able to fire somebody for being gay.

  • Maybe I'll be for the Act, it sounds like a good thing/concept.

But I'm sure it will be corrupted by some fine print in page 438. Than making it impossible for firing an incompetent black gay female just because she happens to be black, gay, and a female not because she sucks at her job.

I agree no one should be fired or hired on bias veiws.

But if you are a business owner and not accepting government funding, you should be able to do what you want with that buiesness. It's their money on the line and the market place should sort that out. I don't watch BET or buy FUBU because I'm not black & I don't support other racially bias products. You think WET would get ratings? How would an all white college compare to an all black college.

Hope and Calvin seem to be doing well for themselves...

We already have WET. They're called "CBS" "NBC" "ABC" "Fox" and "PBS" along with hundreds of cable networks. I love how white bigots get all up in arms over 1 niche station that was founded to provide an outlet for African-Americans that were ignored by the networks.

"Racially biased products." Seriously? You are outraged over FUBU?? lol What is J Crew, Abercrombie, Polo, Nautica, Calvin Klein, Kenneth Cole, Tommy Hilfiger, etc???

All black colleges? There are no "all black colleges." There are the HBCU's that were founded because African-Americans were prohibited to attend the vast majority of colleges across the country. Kind of like the Women's colleges. But yes, let's be outraged by those too. lol

Actually there is this statement in the Declaration of Independence about "all men being created equal", that is the founding basis for this country, you know way back when we kicked your limey ancestors arses out of here. So I think the average businessman has no problem with this. So how do you feel about the reverse discrimination....errr...I mean affirmative action programs. Time to get rid of them, don't you think?

Those might be necessary until society proves that it truly believes all men are created equal. Same reason that the Voting Rights Act shouldn't have been messed with.

So government mandated racism will be needed, until non government racism is gone? Really?lol

yes, the text of the Declaration of Independence declared that all "men" were created equal, white, land owning men, that is.

I find it interesting that Mr. "no black could ever be admitted to college over a white person" is espousing prohibition of discrimination.

The Klan was founded by democrats, I don't support socialism either.

Until minorities can unquestionably get a fair shake, then SOME measures are needed. Affirmative action is far from perfect, though. I'd definitely love to hear your alternative solutions though.

To me the reasons for being fired should always be only based on performance. However, that has nothing to do with the reasons for being hired in the first place.

Shame your leader doesn't feel the same, and will likely prevent this from passing:

"House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) affirmed on Monday morning that he would oppose any law that would prohibit discrimination against gay and lesbian employees in the workplace"

Very sad. What a disgusting bunch Republicans are thumbsup.

Don't need a law, the free market is naturally against discrimination.

The GOP will continue its circular firing squad if the GOP House kills the bill.

The gay community has a lot of money and time to work for opposition candidates.

How about just enforce existing anti-discrimination laws that have been in place for decades? Of course that would take some effort, much easier to just ignore that and instead replace it with even more discrimination. Liberal logic - I'll never get it.

First, John Boehner isn't my leader. And second even if I was a Republican, the WH libs have established without a doubt that my leader would be Rush Limbaugh. Pay attention and try to keep up with the "facts" around here.roflmao

  • even if I was a Republican. . .

    lol

    BOOM.....ROAST

  • The Klan was founded by democrats, I don't support socialism either.

ah yes, the classic and pathetic "well, 150 years ago...." line lol

If you want to play that game, the right opposed intervention into WWII because they had economic interests with the Nazi's they didn't want to threaten. So, by your weak logic, the right supports the policies of the Nazi's.

Congress's job is to pass laws, there's no "votes" in it, if they just remind the Executive Branch of existing laws.

Laws only work on the surface. You can change behavior to a certain point, but you can't legislate the attitudes that people hold.

Correct, - we have anti-drug laws, but people still buy, sell and use them. So I guess the govt should just go into the drug dealing business too. Since when is the solution to curing illegal behavior, being the government engaging in the same illegal behavior?
