Magas turn on Linsey Graham at airport...

  • Btw: just another datapoint about how Republicans don't accept any culpability in what happened on Tuesday:

Ronna McDaniel unanimously was re-elected RNC chair this morning: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/ronna-mcdaniel-reelected-republican-national-committee-chair/

    Now consider this:

Conclusion - just like Trump, she has been lying about election fraud. She shares responsibility for having misled the people who stormed the capital on Wednesday.

Let's examine some of the language she uses:

And on accepting her 2-year extension as RNC chair this morning she said:

    • "We have a lot of hard work to do to take back the Senate and the House in 2022, but I am mad and I’m not going to let socialism rule this country"

Conclusion: Less than 48-hours since the violence in DC, she's already demonizing Democrats, and using red-scare tactics to rile up her base. She uses demonizing messaging and the politics of fear as her primary tool.

And lastly, again this morning (on being elected RNC chair) she told the audience: "The violence does not represent acts of patriotism, but an attack on our country and its founding principles."

Conclusion: she did all the same things Trump did. Told all the same lies. Used the same demonizing messaging to spread fear among their base. And when the most ardent supporters in their base reacted, she has disavowed them, and she has washed her hands off her guilt in leading them to their actions.

This is the RNC chair. Re-elected unanimously. This morning.

  • If only there was some piece of literature these GOP folks could have read that talks about a monster destroying its creator or maybe even if someone, anyone could have tweeted something like "If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed.......and we will deserve it." Oh well.

    Ahem:

    https://www.politico.com/news/2021/01/22/murkowski-party-switch-461341

"I can be very discouraged at times with things that go on in my own caucus, in my own party," Murkowski told a trio of reporters on Friday. "But I have absolutely no desire to move over to the Democratic side of the aisle. I can't be somebody that I'm not."

Three more things Murkowski obviously will not do:

    1. She will not create a GOP faction
    2. She will not run as an Independent
    3. She will not hold the GOP accountable to purge itself of racists and seditionists

After all, she is merely discouraged. Not disguested, or alarmed, or apalled, or any of those things. Just slightly discouraged with what the Republican party has become.

She cannot become something she's not of course. So she remains with the party that represents what she is.

You forgot the fourth thing she obviously will not do.

    4. She will not claim less than three dead people constitutes a "mostly peaceful" protest.

But, you know, only because she's reasonable.

How fun. The alt-right misinformation campaign is back.

Are we pretending that sedition is less than sedition because of death count?

So few people stand up for people who try to overthrow democracy. Good for you defending them. It's a proud look.

Now what trip are you on? Happy to get into it. Feel free to explain your position properly. I'll check back tomorrow morning and reply.

Just reminding you of that time I said I thought we could agree that three shooting deaths in Seattle's CHOP meant it wasn't really a peaceful protest and you couldn't bring yourself to agree to that.

This seems like a mischaracterization. You have a post you can link to?

I was anti CHOP/CHAZ from the start. In general I am anti anarchist claims or land grabs made by anyone who does not have an aboriginal cliam to said land. I drew a parallel between CHAZ/CHOP and the Malheur refuge. I critizied it as a co-opting of the BLM protest. In as much as they were pro-BLM and bringing attention to the issue of police brutality, I agreed with them, but aside from that I was against their land grab.

Lastly, it did start out peacefully. Don't take that as support for it -- let me remind you, I was opposed to CHAZ/CHOP and remain so, for the reason mentioned above. There was some violence later, but I don't recall it being clear what and who caused the incident, and what their motive was. I haven't looked at it since then, but I don't recall commtting to it either way. If the protest turned violent, I'll call it a violent protest. If the violence was provoked/instigated by cops or a false-flag attack I'll call it that. And both could be true, since these were likely separate incidents.

Very, very hard to see how this connects to Murkowski anyway.

I'll see if I can find it tomorrow. I'm busy combatting ming's racism tonight.

Sounds good. Looking forward to it. If you want to have more impact, post less, and in more detail. These one-liners acheive nothing. I do welcome your response tomorrow. We should get into it in full detail. I'm pretty sure there was a thread on CHOP -- we can unpack it fully, ensure we're representing people's positions properly, examine everyone's actions as a good-faith actor, or bad-faith actor, or instigator, or poster of misinformation -- all of it. It's the best way to approach these things, and to make true progress.

A quick google tells me Lorenzo Anderson was shot on June 20th. That's the hard limit on my search tomorrow. (Mostly for my own reference here.)

Would be great to have more information before drawing conclusions, but I also meant that it would be nice to have a reference to the original discussion here on Wells and stake out what the positions were. Lastly, and quite importantly - the link to Murkowski. Otherwise we’re just off on a tangent.

Hi. Welcome to Wells Hall, "new" poster.

Not interested in one line zingers, and back-and-forth pissing contests. We can do CHAZ / CHOP in a separate thread, and focus on Murkowski here.

Nice effort, but Satchel is among the worst souls on here when it comes to genuine discourse.

We could have a thread examining his positions and supporting that topic with evidence, but that would be an utterly worthless thread.

A lot of words to say he will keep stringing you a long with these one line zings just to keep you wasting your time offering to debate him. That is who he is.

His humanity died when Attilan fell and he transformed slowly into an inhuman
