Esmery Martinez asks for her release

  • One of MSU's signees is asking for her release from her LOI. That gets the Bulldogs to 14 scholarships. They have one open now.

  • This doesn’t bode well for Kamilla Cardoso or Madison Hayes (who I think Smeri lived with?). We should make a late push for Olivia Cochran.

I loved Esmery’s potential. She was just a workhorse on the glass, but I guess minutes were going to be tough to come by.

  • Robbie - have you heard anything about Aaliyah Edwards? Really talented 2020 6’3” PF. Top 20 player by ESPN. Followed by Hailstatewbk on Instagram.

  • This is a bummer to me, and I don't think it's a good idea to go somewhere that late with game starting in 5 months. She may not have played much this year, but she could've at least taken a redshirt. It'll probably be the same somewhere else she goes.

That being said, that does give us a little bit more wiggle room. Not sure if any more grad transfers are interested, but my guess is no. We were gonna recruit at least one player this cycle, it's unrealistic to think we weren't. Now we have for sure a spot. I bet we'll end up with 2 at the end.

Just that MSU is in the mix, but I'm not sure who else is on her at the moment. She's on the Canadian national team. The film I've seen on her is impressive. She can shoot it, get to the rim or play with her back to the basket.

That’s good news. I agree - she looks like a stud. I had hoped we were in on Olivia Cochran too, but weren’t in her top 10.

They'll have to be selective this next class. It looked like it was all in on Kamilla but now that this has happened I don't know how much of a chance they have there.

  • I don't understand this mutual connection business. I'm willing to bet Cardoso, Hayes, Hunt, and Martinez are not gonna all go to the same school. I think we'll end up recruiting at least one of those first 3. Also.... Hayes is currently playing on the same U-18 team as Rickea Jackson.

Maybe this keeps Elena Tsineke open for recruiting too, I'm gonna assume she's this year's class and not next year's.

  • Perhaps they wanted a scholarship open for 6’7” Texas transfer Sedona Prince? She redshirted with a leg injury this season, and will sit out for a transfer, thus effectively become 2020.

  • I've requested comment from a couple of MSU officials and they declined to say anything at this time.

Does anyone know if she is interested?

  • Coach Lovato began following her on twitter today. Probably still too early to tell.

Lovato also followed Kitija Laksa, big time wing grad xfer from USF.

  • Looks like two schools Smeri is considering early are Texas and NC State. I wish the best for her - SO DON'T CHOOSE TEXAS.
