  • This is phenomenal. Question as I don’t really follow recruiting - while it’s clear this is a first for DD, have we ever had a recruiting class rated that high in football, such as the year Mario Williams came?

    Nice write up Cory.

If that does not jump start your day, nothing will

The mario class was top 10-15 depending on the site you looked at. Last years class was the first time we ever brought in more than 5 four star kids in one class. We have a chance to get close/match that this season which is unprecedented in nc state recruiting history to have back to back classes with that kinda quality

Couldn't agree more regarding back to back classes. Historically, State would pull off a strong recruiting class every 5 years or so. I thought the '19 class was especially critical to maintain the recruiting momentum and show the '18 class wasn't a blip in the radar.

Yes, I see. That Mario class was phenomenal. Chuckles was doing some serious recruiting for a while there.

  • To me, having back to back strong classes just means our redshirt program is only going to get stronger

Having sustained depth like that is what will help us move up.

    Like I know anything...

  • We're in a really good position right now.

This recruiting class is looking good, which would be two in a row. And, with Finley back we're likely to have another good year this year, which could then turn into another good recruiting class coming off another good season.

Three good recruiting classes in a row is how you build a lasting top 25 program.

  • I’m hoping that one particular IC poster was correct in that we are in the driver’s seat for a lot of the top NC ’19 talent. Dude was extremely pessimistic on UNCs class and thought we were poised for another great class – hope he’s right.

Historically, UNC has landed more of the top NC talent so last year was a very welcome sign. It would be huge to flip that in our favor coupled with our better player development. I’ve never been too concerned with Duke, WF, ECU, etc. For the guys that state in state – it’s primarily a battle between State and UNC.

    Pretty much.

  • We're constructing the Manteo to Murphy wall!

Dig it low, and raise it high!

Keeping the muti-star studs inside, and keeping the SEC poachers outside.

And keep the CHeaps totally off balance.

Winning helps. And when kids visit, they see that we are a much better football environment than the library that is kenan stadium. Even Fedora knew better than to have a spring game because nobody would show up. How crappy is football at your school when you are too embarrassed to have a spring game?

Winning, combined with players getting drafted. That seems to be opening a lot of kids' eyes to our program.

Another key will be who we replace Finley with next year. We can't afford to have a lapse at the QB position when we're right at the cusp of building a top 25 program. Bringing him back this year was absolutely huge. Just hope our big boys up front can protect him as well as they did last year.

On the qb front, one of our targets for this year Calzada, who liked us just committed to Texas A&M. QB targets for us is getting very slim as most of them have commited. 4 star Michael Johnson remains out there, and he is listed as "warm" for us, but I would be shocked if we land him.

  • We’re not to the point where 4 Star QB’s are knocking down our door to get in, every year. We signed a 4 Star last year. Probably won’t this year. Next year it will be vital. There’s a good one in Myrtle Beach.

I feel really good about the one we signed last year. But you are right. We absolutely must get one (and maybe a grad transfer) next year.

This year is a down year for QBs across the board. We will prolly end up taking a guy but i think the staff has their true sights set on a couple dudes in the 2020 class

Leary will have a chance to either redshirt or play backup to Finley this season. I think that we might need him getting some reps but regardless, he is supposed to be quite a qb.

He can now play in 4 games without burning his RS. However the staff is very high on RS-Fr McKay. There will be competition

  • The past season must have helped quite a bit when it came to recruiting the '19 class. Sure is nice to be seriously considered by some top talent within and outside of the state.

  • Saw where Des was ranked as the #7 recruiter for '19. The top 10 was littered with other schools where recruiting is pretty easy - OU, Bama, ND, etc. with exception of Miss St. Need to make sure that man is happy.

  • Up to #19 class after CJ Clark commit!
