North Carolina’s three incoming freshmen are now just days away from beginning their college careers. Rechon Black, Nassir Little, and Coby White will arrive in Chapel Hill next week and enroll.

They’ll be immediately immersed in the summer college routine of classes, weight room work, and pickup games. Next month will add in a weekly team practice, and in August the Tar Heels head to the Bahamas for a couple exhibitions. September includes the rigorous conditioning training and tests, and the start of preseason practice. So while the season opener (Nov. 6 at Wofford) is five months away, the newcomers will have their hands full in the meantime.

UNC head coach Roy Williams thinks highly of the incoming trio, and justifiably so. Little and White are consensus All-Americans, while Black is a versatile in-state standout.

“We’re bringing in some kids that I think are very gifted – maybe even more gifted than what we’re losing,” Williams said earlier this week. “But that doesn’t mean they are going to be as good players, because experience is a huge part of playing the game of basketball.

“I think all three guys we have coming in are going to be very, very good players for us.”

Prior to arriving in Chapel Hill, the freshmen have worked through a lengthy checklist of preparations -- one of which is selecting their UNC jersey number. Black, Little and White informed Inside Carolina of their chosen numbers and explained how they came to the decision.
