Sorry but O'Brien left days after the Frozen 4...a post says "just read" like it was hot off the press...it was TWO months ago...as far snarky and annoying, I post the same way I have for the past 15 years. Perhaps you just have taken note and in the down times between semesters in rubs the wrong...If you think your Cliff Clavin comment will change things, you are wrong. Intend to post the same tone and frequency as I have for the past 172 months...

Friarguy, here's some news! OBrien is going to BCHL next year BUT committed to Boston U for the following season ...

  • What is the story behind Jay O’Brien leaving a Friars that went to Frozen Four and now committing to BU , a team in decline after their head coach joined the Rangers as HC a yr or so ago ? BU was #24 In Pairwise and 16-18-4 record ?

He had that injury and his production was low and guess he sought a fresh start. A lot of kids come in as draft picks and have an adjustment period. Stankowski comes to mind but then went on to be a solid 4 year player before moving on to Calgary.

  • Some Hockey News website mentioned O’BRIEN didn’t fit it PC system plus he had been suspended for off ice issues. But I guess the bigger question is why BU ? It’s gotta be beyond ice time b/c he’ll get that everywhere. BU program is presently experiencing trouble with a high departure rate.

He’s a Hingham kid...BU was probably his favorite team growing up, and he probably has a relationship with Eichel.

  • It was mentioned to me by somebody in Hingham that he was found asleep/drunk at a stop light earlier this spring. Not sure if true, but might help explain an unusual situation if it is.

His issues at PC had nothing to with his Hingham traffic issues BUT might have been symptomatic of his stay in Friartown. Coach Leaman appears to be a no nonsense individual in the way the program is run and no individual is bigger than the program

  • I believe you're right as the reported incident was after he had made the decision to leave PC. I was thinking that the odd BCHL/BU thing might have been connected in some way (if in fact this is an odd situation).

Coach Leaman’s no nonsense approach contributes to why Friars hockey has experienced a rebirth & a Championship. His quality recruiting probably matches his player development & game time strategies. Another Championship is possible in short term if Leaman elects to stay put In Friartown

  • O'Brien is now petitioning NCAA for immediate eligibility at BU

  • Now that would really piss me off if he gets it. Why should he not have to sit out, on what premise is he doing this? It would set a bad precedent if NCAA gives it to him not to mention for the league to allow this. Can't imagine Leaman is happy about such a move.

From what I understand PC would have to agree to allow him to play this year. Would be surprised if it happens personally.

  • Seems like poor form.
