Prioleau signs first full recruiting class at San Jose State

  • Is there some 'talk', somewhere, that Kirk Smith, Jr. has committed to SJSU...or are there, just, some 'hoping for', speculative comments being posted, here?

The Long Beach State fan-message board (where those folks, most likely, know more about his playing abilities than any of us, probably, would) seem to believe that Smith, at 6-7, is more of a SF-type than a PF-type (or, even, a Center-type) at the Div-1 level...simply from a pure, projection standpoint.

  • All hopes and dreams. Would be a great addition to the team and complete a good recruiting class (on paper).

This article lists him as "offered" by San Jose State.

Returning scholarship players (6)...at a maximum:

    C Oumar Barry (Senior)

    C Ashtin Chastain (Jr)

    SF Caleb Simmons (So)

SG Noah Baumann (So)...might, also, be used at SF

    PG Nai Carlisle (So)

PG Isaiah Nichols??? (Jr)...per comment by SpartaRick

    PG Ryan Parilla (So)...Walk-on

In-coming scholarship players (7)...including one player to Redshirt in (2018-19):

    C Samuel Japhet-Mathias (Redshirting, 4-year-school transfer) (Jr)

PF Michael Steadman (JUCO transfer) (Jr)...played Center for CCSF

PF Craig Lecesne (JUCO/4-year-school transfer) (Jr)

PF Christian Anigwe (HS) (Fr)...played Center at Desert Vista (Phoenix, AZ) HS

SG Brae Ivey (JUCO transfer) (Jr)...played PG in HS and JUCO, but he is a pure SHOOTER!

    PG Zach Chappell (HS) (Fr)

    PG Kaison Hammonds (HS) (Fr)

So, that's a TOTAL of, possibly, ELEVEN scholarship players "accounted for" for (2018-19)...Japhet-Mathias is our 13th, Redshirting/scholarship player in the coming season.

And, at this point, Isaiah Nichols...either may or may NOT be...our TWELFTH scholarship player. Time will tell.

Regardless, of Nichols' (unknown) situation, going forward, to say that we're "thin" during this up-coming season, especially, with our overall, playing-depth and Div-1, experience situations understates the obvious!

ADDED NOTE: I've up-dated this posting to include our newest-added recruits, Christian Anigwe and Kaison Hammonds.

Newest player, Kaison Hammonds, added to update my previous post, here.

  • I believe Nai Carlisle will be playing at Cal State East Bay next year.......................

  • Hmm, interesting speculation regarding Nai Carlisle.

What with the significant influx of Point Guards who are, now, Jean Prioleau's "guys"...there, certainly, would appear to be some real, 'common sense-type' thinking behind such a move (to CSU-EB) for Carlisle.

My own speculation is that, at least, several of those incoming PGs...who are good (outside) SHOOTERS (like Brae Ivey and Kaison Hammonds, in particular)...will, also, see some action as combo guards, playing at the SG position.

We'll, also, need to shore up the depth at the Wing/SF position(s), I'll guess...perhaps, with a replacement for Carlisle??? (if a "viable" player might, still, be available, at this point in time, for the 2018-19 roster).
