Hoping I got bad info because I hear Clown Helton is coming back

  • One of my best friends has a source who says tonight’s game was never going to be a factor and that Clueless will be back next year.

My buddy told me who the guy is, and I can say that he’s connected to the program, but he’s not part of the inner workings of the Athletic Dept, so I’m hoping he’s got incorrect information.

The source told my friend that they don’t want to fire Clay yet, and that they will wait to see what happens the first few games next year. This sounds idiotic to me, but so was hiring Clueless in the first place and so was giving him an extension last year.

Really really hoping that’s bad info. I guess we’ll find out within the next 48hrs.

How many will give a shit about recruiting and practice reports when we know nothing will change in on field product?

  • Excellent. Another mid-season firing so we can just write off next year too. That will be Daniels second year. Then Daniels 3rd year we can make the excuse that we have a new coach. Then Daniels will leave early for the NFL and the new coach in his 2nd year can make the excuse that he is bringing along a new quarterback.

If Helton is announced as the new coach, I am done attending games, following recruiting and buying merchandise and going on the forums. If this program DGAF about winning, why should I GAF about this program?

There is a bright side though. If Helton is retained, the pumpers won't need Viagra anymore.

Same here, too depressing to follow this program anymore. Hopefully Lynn does the right thing.

  • I think Swann and Co. have to realize many of us will be done, recruits will go to more stable programs, players will transfer, season ticket holders won't renew, attendance will be an embarrassment, UCLA and Notre Dame will win again and we will be on our way to be the new Oregon St. of the already weak Pac-12.

This year was a joke. Did we even have one complete and satisfying win? What was the combined record of the teams we lost to, the teams we beat? Five-and-seven from a team who has been at the top of the recruiting classes for many years.

USC baseball won a national championship when I was a student. I went to lots of games, it was fun, we were in the mix every post season. Then our program went sour and pretty soon I stopped paying attention.

Oregon St, ironically, is awesome at baseball. They have replaced USC as the class of the league. And USC will replace Oregon St. as the perennial doormats in football if what we fear the most becomes reality.

I think Helton is gone. I don't see how anyone who cares about the tradition of USC football would not do everything possible to cut ties with him..

    Fight On!

If he’s not fired it’s going to be the worst thing USC has done in the last 20 years

Fan since 1965 and I will be done if they bring this incompetent coach back.

Nobody will give a shit about any of that. Helton has sucked out all the joy and anticipation out of the program. This place will be a ghost town

Let's start by not having dam near 50/50 ratios of td/ints. NFL? NFL? NFL? This is happening in the Puff 12 and you're talking NFL? NFL?

  • JT Daniels needs to transfer ASAP ... watching Helton pad stat his winless career will rank up there with Kiffin and Barney show. 6 tds vs 2-10 CU nothing in big games.

  • Are the people who are finished with USC if they bring back Helton old enough to remember the 80s and 90s? You ride with your team through the ups and the downs. Or maybe you should just go to Walmart and pick a new college to support.

For the record, I hope we make a change too, but not supporting the team, and not attending games says more about you than it does our university. Feel free to flame me at your leisure.

  • It’s not a matter of NOT supporting the team; on the contrary, it’s the hope that staying home and not patronizing a Walmart-of-a-football-team will HASTEN THE INEVITABLE and bring relief for the better of everybody, including—and especially—the team.

    It’s short-term pain for long-term gains.

I would get rid of Swann, too. He’s either too weak to act, doesn’t want to act or not persuasive enough to convince others that he should act. Not good.

  • Concur, many of us are no longer willing to support a dysfunctional program, it is a disservice to our players. If the best thing that I can do as an alumnus and $100 donor is to not renew my season tickets and not purchase any SC paraphernalia, then I will express my displeasure in that manner. Good for you, attend all the games next season, but many of us will no longer condone our "leadeship". By the way, Walmart is a terrible place to purchase SC gear! If not on campus, Fanatics or even Khols provide higher quality items.

This is how you affect change in the Southern California market. Matter of fact, that seems the only way to ‘quickly’ affect change in Southern California. This market is too viable/valuable/fickle for those type of records, especially when it comes to sports entertainment.

But by all means continuing supporting with your dollars and words, I’m sure ‘it’ matters to someone...

  • So my friend's source was spot on, unfortunately.

The other thing he said that I didn't put in last night: Swann wants to see how the first few games go next year before making a change.

The reason given for this is that SC has a bad rep in the coaching community because of past mid-season firings, so they want to show stability.

So SC has a bad rep in the coaching community b/c of mid-season firings, but Swann's solution is to fire him mid-season next year ? lol

This is total BS ass-covering. I think the real story is that Swann doesn't want the embarrassment of firing a guy less than 12 months after giving him an extension. The only good news here is that this is going to be such a fiasco that it should doom Swann also.

We can only hope that the new President understands and values the importance of the program and that it can coexist with strong academics (see Stanford, UT, UM, etc). The new President will need to clean house and bring in a real AD, who can then hire a real coach.

Sorry chief but I've been a Trojan alum for a while now so I'm supporting my team through the highs and the lows. One 5-7 season doesn't get me to stop fying out from the east coast to games. Doesn't get me to cancel my season tickets. Doesn't get me to stop contributing to the TAF. The school and the football team are too special to me to abandon them when they are down. I've seen Tollner and Hackett and I survived them. I'll survive Helton too.

And speaking of money, I wonder if those classless fans who paid for the airplane to fly the banner yesterday can get a refund? lol

Hey, I get it, someone needs to foot the bill. I'm glad it will no longer be me nor anyone I know peace

He is happily footing the bill while bending over and smiling and saying, "Thank you Lynn and Clay. Give it to me good."
