Did you tell him good luck with the Hoos, and btw, we really want your brother in Blacksburg?
First thought: the hell are you doing on a plane?? Wash the absolute hell out of your hands, like you just peeled 20 cloves of garlic by hand and have a date in 3 minutes.

Planes right now are probably as clean as they have been since coming off the assembly line.
I will say the bigger airports are a little eerie right now. Connected through Detroit yesterday and it was about as dead as I've ever seen it... that being said, the orchestra of purell bottles opening every time someone sneezed was pretty amazing.
Just be careful if you fly, wash hand, wash hands, wash hands... and in the name of everything holy, keep your fingers out of your mouth.

If I were going to Hawaii, I wouldn’t be either.

I flew from CO back to VA last weekend. Amazing, the plane was barely half full.

It's not really about the planes being clean, I dont doubt they are. But how to you prevent someone from going on the plane that has coronavirus and exposes it to everyone onboard? Similar to that guy that got his test results before his JetBlue flight and still went on the flight! Now what? You potentially have to self-quarantine if you were seated close!

I understand that but this is a probability problem. As a dramatized example, would you get on a plane knowing that one passenger has hepatitis? What about AIDS? What about the flu? Technically you are at risk of any of those (though hepatitis and aids may be lower risk of contracting).
Being exposed does not equal being infected. I understand that a lot of people may not be comfortable doing it and I certainly wouldn’t advocate that everyone does it or that you fly for minor things. My point is that everything is a calculated risk. I’m 35 and healthy and have no regular interactions with high risk groups (elderly or immune compromised).
And it’s not like I’m being an **** about it... I am in no way a germiphobe but I washed my hands before boarding each flight, immediately after deplaning, before eating or drinking, didn’t shake hands, used a sanitizer to clean my hands when on the plane, wiped surfaces down as soon as I got on the plane and before I left. This wasn’t for my benefit; it was to prevent transmission to other people. By virtually all studies to date, I am a very low risk for severe symptoms.
I’m understand and am comfortable with the risk (especially given the additional precautions) and understand that if I’m not careful (or just unlucky) I may end up contracting and having to self quarantine.
And no, if I had so much as a sniffle, I would not have been on that plane. That story is ridiculous and that guy is a jackass.

Are you serious right now? What is this the 1980's? You aren't going to get AIDS from sitting near someone on a f**king plane!! LMAO!

I’m not a moron... I know how aids is spread. There is a risk for everything in your life. If the person next to you hurt himself and started bleeding, you absolutely could contract it. I said it was a very low probability but that doesn’t make it impossible.

You’re kind of making my point. Everyone accepts some risk in their life. If you are responsible about it and pay attention to guidance, flying is not a death sentence or mean that you will necessarily contact the disease.
The cdc doesn’t even say not to fly..

You need to evaluate the risks.

May have been a poor choice for an example (and I made it pretty clear in my original post that it was a very low chance of contracting) but you can get sick from virtually anywhere.
The outrage over taking a flight is crazy is my point. Even though the cdc doesn’t even say don’t fly? Their recommendations are very clear that you should use caution but not freak out about it ... some of the hyperbole and the reactions are the definition of freaking out about it.
Are you telling me that this was somehow more risky than going to the gym? You think you’re safe because you didn’t go into the convenience store at the gas station... only touched the unwashed keys at the pump. What about the thousands of people that flocked to every Walmart within a 50 mile radius trying to buy 100 rolls of toilet paper? Think they came into contact with less people than someone on a plane?
