  • Funny the only thing the whole crazy plane of existence agrees on

    The Antarctic Treaty

The Antarctic Treaty was signed in Washington on 1 December 1959 by the twelve countries whose scientists had been active in and around Antarctica during the International Geophysical Year (IGY) of 1957-58. It entered into force in 1961 and has since been acceded to by many other nations. The total number of Parties to the Treaty is now 53.

Some important provisions of the Treaty:

Antarctica shall be used for peaceful purposes only (Art. I)

Freedom of scientific investigation in Antarctica and cooperation toward that end … shall continue (Art. II).

Scientific observations and results from Antarctica shall be exchanged and made freely available (Art. III).

Seriously though.  People figured this stuff out a LONG time ago when they noticed ship masts on the horizon before the rest of the ship.  This isn't even rudimentary knowledge.

Look into the Bedford level experiment.  Its not as cut and dry as NASA would make us believe.

  • Applause.

So what's in it for NASA to perpetuate this "round world" myth?

They got a piece of the globe sale action?

  • You forgot the map where on the outside of the ice sheet are multiple other continents for the real inhabitants of Earth. :) To each his own.

  • You don't need to go to space to know.

According to flat earthers I've read Antarctica is all encompassing around us.  In the generally accepted flat Earth model, the world is a disc with the North Pole in the center. The outer rim is an unbroken ice wall that runs around the entire circumference of the Earth—Antarctica.

To finish this, you also need to include the map of numerous other continents outside of the Antarctic ice wall for the real inhabitants of this planet. :0)  Does that make us all test tube babies? Carry on

Hate to break it to everyone here but every picture you've ever been shown is photo shopped.  Straight from the NASholes mouth.  1972 is the last photo?  Its 2017 give me a break

Data Visualizer and Designer Robert Simmon never thought that he would become “Mr. Blue Marble.”

    Name: Robert Simmon
Title: Lead Data Visualizer and Information Designer
Formal Job Classification: Senior Program Analyst
Organization He Works For: Code 613, Climate and Radiation Branch, Earth Sciences Division, Sciences and Exploration Directorate

What doyou do and what is most interesting about your role here at Goddard? How do you help support Goddard’s mission?

My role is to make imagery from Earth sciences data. I turn data into pictures. I look for new, interesting events that NASA’s satellites have seen or that are hidden in the latest data to find anything interesting that shows off NASA’s unique capabilities. Finding things is the fun part. I rely on engineers and scientists to produce the data. Their reliable, real-time, stream of 1.7 terabytes a day is incredible–the same as producing 3,000 CDs a day. We know where to look for the interesting stuff because each instrument provides a very specialized type of information. So if I am looking for something specific, I know where to look. For example, recently there was a volcanic eruption in the Red Sea. The only reliable imagery of this was from NASA satellites. We basically confirmed the existence of a new island.

Our team is purely about communications. We translate data into a useable and understandable form. Our writers and visualizers explain what we are seeing and our Web developers tell the world.

What is the coolest thing you’ve ever done as part of your job at Goddard?

The last time anyone took a photograph from above low Earth orbit that showed an entire hemisphere (one side of a globe) was in 1972 during Apollo 17. NASA’s Earth Observing System (EOS) satellites were designed to give a check-up of Earth’s health. By 2002, we finally had enough data to make a snap shot of the entire Earth. So we did. The hard part was creating a flat map of the Earth’s surface with four months’ of satellite data. Reto Stockli, now at the Swiss Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology, did much of this work. Then we wrapped the flat map around a ball. My partwas integrating the surface, clouds, and oceans to match people’s expectations of how Earth looks from space. That ball became the famous Blue Marble.

I was happy with it but had no idea how widespread it would become. We never thought it would become an icon. I certainly never thought that I would become “Mr. Blue Marble.”

We have since updated the base maps by increasing the resolution and, for 2004, we made a series of monthly maps.

  • So even though there is scientific evidence of its existence, the South Pole completely doesn't exist now?

What idiot came up with this?

There's always one slightly smarter idiot leading all of the other idiots.

  • Ooooooooooh, a Bible verse. Very meaningful.

I'm a firm believer that there should be a minimum threshold for civic participation. I don't believe you'd cross it. All I can do is hope you're not procreating.

Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass? (Job 37:18, King James Version, italics indicate words not in original Hebrew)

NASA says they have never been past low earth orbit and cant get past the Van Allen belt. How did they get to the moon?

There are lots ofstories NASA tells that cannot be verified and we just have to take them at their word. All pictures of the earth are CGI and the red bull stunt was filmed with a fish eye lens.

Lots more proofs out there but they should get everyone started

The sun is not 92.96 million miles away it localized and inside the firmament as God states. How can there be sun spots on clouds if its 92 MILLION miles away?

Not sure if the earth is flat or not but I know NASA lies

Of course you would use the lords name in vain.

"Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain" (KJV; also "You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God" (NRSV) and variants) is one of the Ten Commandments. It is a prohibition of blasphemy, specifically, the misuse or "taking in vain" of the name of the God of Israel.

I said I didnt know for sure all I'm saying is it is possible this is all a big ruse. Wouldnt be the first time the people were deceived.

Your missing the whole point. There is a land mass to the south. The flat earthers think an ice wall emcompasses the earth from both edges of it. The only thing that throws me is what in the hell was Admiral Richard Bryd talking about in his diary and TV interview. He talks about a land mass south of Antarctica. One of our highest ranking officers of the that time must have been dilussional. Scary to think of, at the least.

  • So we're surrounded by a wall of magnetism masquerading as a pole.

  • So some think so. Seriously, the whole Admiral Byrd thing caused this. Been around since the 30's or 40's. Now we have the net and it is spreading its legs. His mission to the Antarctic was called Operation High Jump. Get it, over the wall. He has numerous stories about the Arctic and Antarctic. Great piece of fiction reading no matter what you believe. I still think he was dilussional though.

  • If you look at polaris "the north star" which never moves, it does look like we are the center of the universe.  Oh thats right we are traveling 1000 mph through space, 666 mph around the sun and its sits at an axis 66.6 degrees  But the stars never move?  Love how the mathematicians threw the 666 number all over the place as well.  Anyone can make numbers do asthey wish.

Show me proof please like a real photo of earth not CGI from space but you cant.

Wow, look at all those lines on the earth. Trump doesn't waste any time, does he?
  • Maybe he should have stayed at Duke for another year and taken this class.

“Introduction to Astronomy,” taught by Duke University Professor Ronen Plesser, presents a broad survey of what we know about the universe and how we know it. In this class, we will be studying, quite literally, everything in the universe. The course starts with “classical” astronomy, describing the night sky and organizing what we see as was done in ancient times. Participants them embark on a journey, starting here on Earth and progressing outward, to study the Solar system, the Milky Way galaxy, and the wonderful and strange objects we observe in deep space, such as black holes, quasars, and supernovae.

The course ends with some discussion of what scientists know today about the universe as a whole. Along the way it introduces some of the methods, theoretical and experimental, that have been used to understand all of this, from Newton’s laws, through our understanding of light and matter, to Einstein’s theory of relativity, and from Galileo’s telescope to WMAP.

  • Does this mean the phases of the moon and all of the eclipses are huge government conspiracies, too?

  • Kyrie still doesn't really deny it.

Maybe Drederick got ahold of him, told him he was sounding crazy.
