Milwaukee Bucks @ Cleveland Cavaliers-11-29-19-GAME THREAD

  • This will probably be a tough one. The Bucks are a legitimate threat to make it to the finals.

  • Discussion
  • The Bucks are 15-3 and winners of nine straight. They beat the Cavs by 17 a month ago. If the Cavs can't beat the Magic with Vucevic and Gordon out, they sure can't beat the mighty Bucks.

The Cavs did all right offensively in the first game, scoring 112, but gave up 129 despite holding Giannis to 14 points on 5-for-15. The Bucks had seven players in double figures and got 50 points from their bench. Giannis is their star but they have a lot of depth. This one should be over by halftime.

  • Getting blown out by 20 at halftime the Cavs made a run, scoring 42 in the 3rd quarter to pull within 3 points in the 4th before Giannis took charge late and held off the charge. Giannis ended up with 33 and 12 after the Cavs held him to 14 points in the first game. You can bet that wasn't going to happen again.

The Cavs had a very solid second half, outscoring the Bucks 63-52 and closing the gap to 3 points a couple of times. Tremendous effort and some excellent 3-point shooting. The Cavs were 17-for-34 from long range, which is probably their best numbers this year. The big story was rookie Darius Garland, who had 21 points and 6 assists while going 4-for-6 from downtown. This is what we thought we would be eventually getting with the #5 pick.

Cedi had a strong game with 20 points, 4 assists, and a couple of steals. Beilein left him on the floor for 38 of 48 minutes - highest on the team. Kevin Love looked better and put up a nice line of 16/8/7, doing a little of everything. Sexton had 16 points and 5 assists, a nice follow-up to his 6 assist effort against the Magic. His passing is improving.

The Cavs cut their turnovers from 25 last game to 14 tonight, which gave them a chance to steal a win. A couple of those turnovers were in the final 30 seconds when the game had been decided.

But the most impressive stat, and surely Beilein's favorite, has to be the 32 assists. That's got to be a season high by a mile, right? The ball was really moving tonight, sometimes a little too much.

Larry Nance Jr continues to play well on offense. He's scored in double figures six out of seven games. Tonight he had 18 points and 9 rebounds in 27 productive minutes off the bench.

Unfortunately, the defense couldn't keep up with the offense, especially in the first half when the Bucks put up 67 points. The Cavs held them to 52 in the second half. Former Cav George Hill abused his former teammates for 18 points in 22 minutes and chipped in four assists off the bench.

The Cavs' bench was no match for Hill, Ilyasova, Middleton, and Robin Lopez. Delly, McKinnie, Porter and Zizic were all held scoreless and Clarkson only had 8.

Overall it was a positive game as they competed very well against the team with the best record in the East. Now they have three days off and only one game in the next five days - a lot of time to practice. They only got called for traveling a couple of times tonight so that's encouraging.
