Jerry Jones request to vote on Roger Goodell extension is denied

Things are rapidly heating up in Jerry Jones' war to see changes enacted in the league office.

The war continues between Jerry Jones and the NFL.

The Dallas Cowboys' owner has gone to the extreme measures of threatening a lawsuit against NFL owners -- namely those named to the league's Compensation Committee, led by Arthur Blank -- who would approve an extension on the contract of Roger Goodell without seeking the vote of all 32 owners. It doesn't appear that threat is being taken seriously beyond a reported cease-and-desist order being reportedly delivered to Jones, who demands a vote on Goodell.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the request has reportedly been formally denied.

That isn't exactly surprising considering the currently climate between Jones and Blank, the latter working to accelerate the finalization of Goodell's extension. By all accounts, the Atlanta Falcons' owner -- who is also responsible for removing Jones from his ad hoc position on the Committee -- wants the deal done asap, or at least in the next few weeks.

Here is the latest, according to ESPN:

The committee also reiterated Monday that Jones should drop his threat to sue the league over Goodell's deal, saying in a letter obtained by the Journal that the Dallas Cowboys owner's dispute with the commissioner "reflects conduct unbefitting an owner and is damaging to the League."

Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, the chairman of the six-person committee, responded to Jones' request for a vote by citing a May resolution in which the 32 owners unanimously gave the committee authority to negotiate Goodell's extension.

In the letter, Blank wrote that Jones was ignoring facts "to satisfy your personal agenda," according to the Journal.

Sources familiar with the negotiations told ESPN that Goodell's extension still is on track to be completed at or before the owners' Dec. 13 meetings in Dallas.

Unless you've been residing under a rock the past few months, you're well-aware of the fight between Jones and the NFL front office -- one that seemingly began with the Hall of Fame owner feeling "lied to" by Goodell regarding any potential suspension of running back Ezekiel Elliott.

Jones holds firm he was told there would be no suspension, which was also recommended by lead investigator Kia Roberts, but it's now November and several federal court battles later -- Elliott has thrown in the towel and conceded to serving his full suspension, after the final two verdicts essentially left his case dead in the water.

And while the NFLPA is preparing to utilize ammunition gained from that battle in the coming 2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement talks, Jones isn't apt to wait that long before he sees change take place. He promised Goodell he'd go at him with "everything he has", and thus far he's proven he's not bluffing.

This latest spurn to his advances can only mean one thing: This brawl is just getting started.
