Mike Tomlin calls JuJu's touchdown celebrations 'cute'

Mike Tomlin is OK with JuJu Smith-Schuster's celebrations as long as they don't lead to a penalty.

Mike Tomlin is OK with JuJu Smith-Schuster's celebrations as long as they don't lead to a penalty.

Tomlin was asked about Smith-Schuster's touchdown celebrations following the rookie receiver's game of hide and seek with Le'Veon Bell following his 31-yard touchdown reception in Pittsburgh's Week 7 victory over Cincinnati.

“For those that celebrate, it’s important that they err, and err on the side of caution if necessary,” Tomlin said, via Steelers.com. “I have no problem with the celebrations. JuJu’s cute and all of that, provided it doesn’t cost our football team. I think they are doing the necessary research to make sure they are within the lines. I don’t anticipate that being an issue moving forward.”

Tomlin was asked about the clarity of what celebrations will and won't be penalized, as Bell was penalized and fined after punching the goalposts following his second quarter touchdown run against the Chiefs back in Week 6.

“We revisited the concept of celebration and the reality is I don’t think any of us are really solid on what the rules are because of how the change happened,” Tomlin said. “It happened late in the spring after the meetings. To get consistency and clarity in that area I think is important for us.”

While he hasn't been penalized fined for either of his first two touchdown celebrations, Smith-Schuster may still lose money following his next touchdown. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Smith-Schuster said he'll give his next game check to Ben Roethlisberger if he joins in the Steelers' next end zone celebration.
