In episode 87 of GT247's Tigers in 20, host and lead writer Christian Fowler, GT247 founder Brooks Hansen and GT247 digital content producer Kenny Stubblefield break down Memphis' 17-point win over Saint Mary's.

The Tigers and the Gaels met in the first game of the Bad Boy Mowers Crossover Classic, and Memphis dominated the game. Although they started the game slow, Memphis controlled the game from the middle of the first half to the end of the game.

Despite only being 5-point favorites, Memphis clearly showed who the best team was on Wednesday. Sophomore guard Boogie Ellis lead all scorers with 24 points, and he finished the game 6-of-7 from three.

During the episode, the GT247 crew gives their instant takeaways from the game, and they also discuss performances from Ellis, Damion BaughDJ JeffriesMoussa Cisse and more.

Although Jeffries and Virginia Tech transfer Landers Nolley didn't have great offensive games, Memphis was still able to win by double digits, which says a lot about this team. Jeffries and Nolley are expected to be the two best scorers on the team, but that doesn't mean Penny Hardaway and the staff don't have multiple players who can catch fire.

With the win over Saint Mary's, the Tigers will be back in action at 11 a.m. CST on Thursday, and they will face the winner of Western Kentucky/Northern Iowa.

To begin the episode, the crew discusses Memphis' 2021 signees. Jordan NesbittJosh MinottJohn Camden and Sam Ayomide all signed with the Tigers in the Early Signing Period, which was a huge win for Penny Hardaway and the staff.

Fowler, Hansen and Stubblefield explain how big of a deal it is that all four players signed early and what it means for the remainder of Memphis' 2021 class. They also break down that the players will face less distractions with their recruitments wrapped up.

Next, the trio moves on to the Bad Boy Mowers Crossover Classic, which will take place next week. Memphis will begin the tournament against Saint Mary's, and it should still be a nice start to the season despite so many teams dropping out.

Throughout the discussion, the crew explains what they believe the lineups and rotation could look like. Hardaway is known for changing the lineups and rotations a lot early in the season, but he may not have the luxury to do that as much without scrimmage games before the tournament.

Finally, the trio breaks down landing spots for Memphis' 2020 NBA Draft prospects – James Wiseman and Precious Achiuwa. Memphis hasn't had a player drafted since 2012, and they haven't had two players drafted in the first round since 2006.

During last week's episode, the crew briefly discussed DeAndre Williams' waiver request, and they dive in much more detail in this episode. GT247 founder Brooks Hansen posted a VIP update this week on the NCAA waiver situation and how it affects Williams, so Fowler and Stubblefield break down that update.

Fowler and Stubblefield also discuss the role Williams could potentially play if he is deemed eligible by the NCAA. With his versatility and leadership, the duo believes he will be a major addition for Penny Hardaway and the staff.

LISTEN TO THE FULL EPISODE HERE

Following the discussion of Williams, the crew switches gears to football. Memphis coach Ryan Silverfield and the Tigers were demolished last weekend by Cincinnati, so Fowler and Stubblefield discuss the game against the Bearcats and what went wrong.

Next, they break down the rest of the seasons and attempt to set expectations for the 2020-2021 football season. Fowler compares this season to the 2018 season, which is when the Tigers lost for the second consecutive time against UCF in the AAC Championship Game.

Although Memphis finished the regular season 8-4, they won the AAC West, and it looked like they were going to win the conference championship early in the game against the Knights. With so much adversity surrounding this season and with a first-year coach in Silverfield, Fowler believes this season could look very similar.
