The search for the next wave of Texas assistant coaches is making progress as head coach Tom Herman looks to complete the hiring process as soon as possible. After first-year defensive coordinator Chris Ash made the decision last week to not retain co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Craig Naivar and cornerbacks coach and recruiting coordinator Jason Washington, Texas continues its search to replace now seven assistant coaches from the 2019 season. But recent developments have led to the Longhorns adding three new faces to the future of Texas football with the recent hires of linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator Coleman Hutzler, wide receivers coach Andre Coleman and cornerbacks coach Jay Valai.

On this week's episode of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes discuss the recent coaching additions to Herman's staff before bringing in Horns247 publisher Bobby Burton to talk all things Texas football. We are then joined by special guest, GoPowerCat.com publisher Tim Fitzgerald, for an in-depth look into former K-State OC and new Texas receivers coach, Andre Coleman, and the mark Coleman left on the Wildcats during his time spent as a member of Bill Snyders coaching staff at Kansas State.

Chip and Taylor wrap up the show with their tailgate takeaways, including Chip's take on how the ties between LSU and Texas, particularly the coaching hires, could have changed the course for both programs, but more so for the now reigning College Football Playoff National Champions, Ed Orgeron and the LSU Tigers.

The Longhorns once again came ready to play in post-season action as Texas posted a monster upset over then No. 11 ranked Utah in the Valero Alamo Bowl. The bowl game performance was solid at all three phases of the game and marked one of the most complete performances from Texas this season. But as the dust settles from the 8-5 2019 season, all focus is turning to what Tom Herman and Co. will do with the remaining assistant coaches at Texas.

With newly hired defensive coordinator Chris Ash and offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich on campus, the interviews for the vacant coaching positions have officially begun. Horns247 reported over the weekend that running backs coach Stan Drayton and co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Herb Hand will be retained by Yurcich, which leaves the offense seeking a tight ends and wide receivers coach. On defense, Ash is interviewing the remaining assistants on staff — defensive line coach Oscar Giles, safeties coach Craig Naivar and cornerbacks coach Jason Washington — this week, but as Horns247 reported Tuesday, none of the defensive assistants have been guaranteed a spot on the coaching staff in the future.

In this week's edition of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes open the show with the latest names they are hearing as potential replacements on the Longhorns' staff and bring in Horns247 publisher Bobby Burton for his take on where things stand at Texas and a breakdown of the Longhorns' Alamo Bowl game upset over Utah. We are then joined by former Texas defensive lineman Tim Crowder for his breakdown of what Texas has on defense and where Ash can improve the defensive efforts moving forward.

Chip and Taylor close the show with a preview of what lies ahead for Texas.

Catch all of that and more in Episode 14 of The Flagship Podcast.

After a wild few weeks, Horns247 broke the story that Tom Herman has hired both Chris Ash as the Longhorns' next defensive coordinator and Mike Yurcich as the offensive coordinator. While Ash was the leading candidate in Herman's search for a new DC, Herman narrowed in on Ohio State passing coordinator, Yurcich, after the head coach stripped Tim Beck of his OC title following the 7-5 regular season.

On a New Year's edition of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes open the show breaking down the hiring of Yurcich, and what this means for the future of the Texas offense. The Flagship then brings on Horns247 publisher Bobby Burton for his take on Yurcich. We are also joined by Robert Allen of Triple Play Sports and Oklahoma State sideline reporter for an inside look of Herman's hiring of Yurcich as OC.

Chip and Taylor close the show with their highlights of the last decade of Texas athletics and what they are looking forward to in 2020. We hope you enjoy our New Year's special edition of The Flagship Podcast.

After a wild few weeks, Horns247 broke the story that Tom Herman has hired Chris Ash as the Longhorns' next defensive coordinator. Ash was the leading candidate in Herman's search for a new DC, and will take over the Texas defense following the Alamo Bowl game vs. Utah. With the defensive coordinator search officially over, the Longhorns are still in need of finding a replacement for Tim Beck after Herman stripped Beck of his OC title following the 7-5 regular season. As Horns247 was first to report in early December, USC offensive coordinator Graham Harrell was the top candidate on Herman's mind, but Harrell is not willing to jump ship to join Herman's staff at Texas and resigned a new contract extension with USC.

So where is Texas at now with the lead offensive coordinator candidate off the board?

On a Christmas edition of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes open the show discussing where things stand with the search for OC and give some intel into some holiday traditions of the Horns247 staff. The Flagship then brings on Horns247 publisher Bobby Burton for his take on new leading OC candidate Mike Yurcich. We are also joined by Patrick Murphy of Bucknuts.com for the Ohio State side of Herman's offensive coordinator search.

Chip and Taylor close the show with their latest intel on the OC search, and take a look back at some of the highlights and lowlights of the last decade of Texas football. We hope you enjoy our Christmas special edition of The Flagship Podcast.

    Merry Christmas!
